It’s rivalry week at Mountain View!

On Friday, September 22, the Bruins will host their cross-town rival, the Orem Tigers. In past years, the Bruins have been on the wrong end of the rivalry, going 4-9 in the last 13 years, but they look to turn that around on Friday night.

The MVHS football team is coming off of a tough lost to Payson last Friday, 30-25, while Orem had a huge victory over Provo, 35-6. The Tigers have played themselves to a 3-2 record so far, losing to Bingham and Corner Canyon and defeating Sutter and Bakersfield (from California) and Provo; they will take that record into the Bruin Bowl on Friday night.

Orem is led by their QB Cooper Legas and standout receiver Puca Nacua. On the defensive side of the ball, they have been solid up front, but have let some deep plays hurt them in the secondary. It will be interesting to see if the Bruins can take advantage of that.

The key players this year for the Bruins have been Riley Sinema, Nata Suguturaga and many more on the offensive end.

The real struggle for the Bruins has been on the defensive side, with trying to slow down the run game. In order to beat Orem, it will be important to make the Tigers one dimensional on offense.

Any way you look at this game, it’s going to an exciting rivalry, and there will be plenty of energy in the Bruin Bowl on Friday night.
