What is a Societal Artist? The definition of societal is something that is relating or depicting society. Therefore a societal artist is someone who uses society and uses its truths to create art. Using this to influence others. Some examples are, and not limited to: Street artists, Singers, and so many more. Examples include: My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, Halsey, Blink 182, and many other bands given a “bad reputation” notation from society. Banksy, The artist of Cyanide and Happiness, and many others. Now why is this? Society is trying to shut the people up. The people that matter and are going to save lives. Mumford and Sons “Thistle and weeds” Even stated lines such as “I will hold on hope...plant your hope with good seeds. Don't cover yourself in Thistle and weeds...corrupted by the simple sniff of riches blown” Foo Fighters talked openly about suicide in “Learn to fly” stating “Now I’m looking for the sky to save me, looking for a sign of life...Make my way back home where I learn to fly” “Demons” by Imagine Dragons even keeps us hoping with a few lines “when your dreams all fail...no matter what we breed we still are made of greed” Banksy created a whole dystopian Disneyland and illegally marks up buildings to make the world aware. Political cartoons in the newspaper are made by Societal artists. Now what's the point? Why make people living in a society aware of their society? So the people living in these societies, can change it. So the people can make it the way it the way they want. The ultimate ideals. It reflects all of us. Halsey songs alone have lessons. Stating things such as “You wanna go to heaven but your human tonight...Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me?....You are not a human being, you are part of a machine. Low on self-esteem so you run on gasoline….I’m well acquainted with villains that live in my head….you said your mother only smiled on her tv show. You're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope” My Chemical Romance talks a lot about mental illnesses. In the end Societal Artists form and shape society, and they way people act towards different topics. Topics that Society has placed labeled to not discuss to which these artists are saying “Screw that.” Making all and any ideas accessible to everyone letting us think about anything society can get our hands on. So are they causing a rebellious generation? Honestly, no. People are now able to understand and accept everyone. They themselves are understanding and ultimately acceptable. Should people raise more Societal Artists? It is a simple answer yes.
