The Sage test begun a few weeks ago and will be continuing to the end of the school year for MVHS. The Sage test is the state test that began 4 years ago. It tests you on 4 subjects of Math, English, Reading, and Science. It also tests you on everything you've learned from ninth grade to things you will learn in 12th grade. This is one of the Pros to the Sage test, is that it helps you remember the things you have learned in the past and also prepares you for things you will learn in the future. It also helps show what you need to study more for, for teachers finals because the sage test does not count towards a grade. A con of the sage test though, Is the fact that it does test you on material you might not know yet. So when you come to the higher grader questions, or questions from previous material you may not know, it can hurt your overall score of the sage. Another con to the Sage is that majority of this test is free response. You must write your answer yourself which means if something is misspelled or something doesn't look right then it will mark it wrong when it could truly be correct. The computer can only process the correct answer that the proctor says it to be. Because of the cons to this test, many students opt out of the test and take a standard test that there teacher gives them. They don't like taking it because of the fact they may not know all the material and don't want that reflecting poorly on them. Sophomore John Francis's response to the sage test is that he “feels like it's a good test to figure out what I know and the knowledge I have and what to work on, but at the same time I do not like it for the sole fact of i do not know more than half of the material because I'm only in 10th grade”. Many students agree and disagree with John's statement. The Sage test can be both good and bad from how the tester looks at it. Good luck to all you bruins who are taking the test now and to all those who have already taken we here at the bruin post hope your scores were to your liking.
