Children are taught from a small age that you can be either a boy or a girl, and identifying as the sex not given at birth is still a taboo. Genders go beyond the male/female spectrum. This article is to help those readers who don’t seem to get it, PEOPLE CAN IDENTIFY AS SOMETHING OTHER THAN A BOY OR A GIRL.
Cisgender: Identifying as the gender assigned to you at birth. This gender is what society wants everyone to be.
Transgender: Identifying as a gender different than the one assigned at birth.
Transgender female: Identifying as a female. Use feminine pronouns if asked to do so.
Transgender male: identifying as a male. Use masculine pronouns if asked to do so.
Bigender: Identifying as two genders. Not limited to female and male
Genderfluid: Gender identity may change with the day, time, or situation. Not to be confused with identifying as bigender or trigender.
Agender: Does not identify as any gender. Use gender neutral pronouns if asked to do so.
Pangender: Identifying as all genders.
Demigender: Identify as partially one gender and partially another. It is not limited to only two genders.
Neutrois: Identify as neutral when it comes to genders. Associated with gender dysphoria, when a person is questioning their identity.
Note: This is an incomplete list of gender identities. Individuals are allowed to identify as needed. Gender signs can be created to match gender chosen. Pronouns and names must be used according to the individual’s request.
