Does the school need to change the school plan once again? At schools, Lunch is being served but is it good food? Or is it just nutritious food that isn't very good? School lunch Has always been a struggle for kids at school. Some say that it isn't good but others say that it's edible. Some kids don't like it so they bring their own lunch or don't eat at all. Schools are trying to really hard to have “good” food but since the USDA changed the food plan for school lunches it is hard to still maintain that standard. In comparison in 1947 we spent $70 million on the lunch program, in 1960 they spent $226 million and in 2012 they spent $11.6 Billion on the school lunch program. Since the USDA change the Food plan, 16% of kids are now eating more vegetables. 23% of the kids are eating more fruit at lunch. The school year of 2014-2015 they started to add more fruit to the plate and more fruit during breakfast. In the picture you can see that the calorie amount has significantly been dropped. The schools went from about a 1100 Total calories just for lunch to 618 Calories. Schools were able to make the food healthier and less calorie packed food. The majority of the kids at the school don't eat the school lunch because of what they make it look like or because of the taste. Jacob cheever says” School lunch wasn't all that great when I was eating it,but I don't eat the lunch not just because of the way it tastes but because of the line to get the food.” In conclusion to how the school lunch is preparing meals for the kids and serving the meals is not necessarily the schools fault. It's the USDA’s fault because they are the ones that changed it to the new food healthy plan. If anyone was to blame anyone it should be the USDA or (from the kids themselves) Michelle Obama.
