People watching is an underrated pass time. Hear me out, this isn’t just really casual stalking (it basically is but that is besides the point).
Imagine for a moment yourself, out at a lunch-date with some friends, you’re enjoying a meal and next thing, you are observing and studying everyone and everything they are doing all around you and your friends, this is people watching. It is a genuine thing and it’s definition, according to Google, is this: “the action or practice of spending time idly observing people in a public place.” This simple act has a Wikipedia article, a Wikihow article showing you how to people watch, an Urban Dictionary definition because Urban Dictionary, and numerous books and studies involving and revolving around it. It’s so simple that people-watching is really idle, you just kinda do it. When you zone out and are just staring at someone, when you are observing yourself in a situation, anytime really you could people watch.
People watching is kind of underrated, watching how people perform and act in a space. It’s very fascinating. This all may sound a bit, or a lot more than a bit, creepy and you are totally free to think that, as I’m writing this I’m cringing, but people watching really is so interesting.
If you don’t or haven’t tried people watching, consider it, you can learn a lot about yourself, your friends or family, or complete strangers. The simple act of watching someone and paying a potentially excessive amount of attention is almost addictive, walking through hallways, going out to lunch or dinner, riding in a car or on the FrontRunner, you can see a lot of interestings things and a lot more interesting people each with a story and a series of events that has shaped their life and has given them experiences that have helped them be where they are at any given moment, it’s weird to think about and often just ends in me taking some Ibuprofen but everyday I still do it.
Perform your own little, internal social and mental experiment. People watch, it’s weird but everyone does it.
