To society beauty is just another unrealistic, ideal expectation for both men and women. Men are not as often recognized as women. Men have the same pressure, just in different forms. Men have ken as a role model, a blonde with a six pack, who is expected to wait on his girlfriend hand and foot. Ken who fits every gender role. Did I mention that he is also white and a heterosexual? Girls on the other hand try constantly to live up to Barbie’s criteria, perfect hair, makeup, a tall thin figure with perfect skin and to be a complete dimwit who relies way too much on her boyfriend, Ken.
Over one half of women and a third of men have eating disorders. This is caused by a psychiatric disorder caused by the offsetting of chemicals and hormones in the body, and brain. Or thoughts pushed on them based on pressures of those around them. So they don’t eat or throw up what they have eaten before they get a chance to digest, or binge eating. This is slowly killing society.
The death toll racks up a good twenty some percent of these people. But with this being the main ideal of beauty what else are people to do? Models for Victoria Secret are on average five foot eight inches to six foot tops. Models are only accepted if they have a twenty four inch waist circumference, and a bust and hip measurement of thirty four inches. Smooth skin, toned tanned bodies, and slick glossy hair are also requirements. Age has to be in the prime, on average eighteen to twenty-two. Full lips, high cheekbones, and chiseled features are a common characteristic. Plus between the weight of ninety and one hundred twelve pounds.
Men have the same amount of ridiculous standards. Height is standardly between five foot eleven inches and six foot two inches. Along with the nearly impossible clear skin, strait smile with white teeth, smooth muscles, lean build and jacket size no larger than forty. Unlike the female models for Victoria Secret most male models can work at any age. Weight is not a big standard for male models.
When these are the requirements for one of the less demanding modeling agencies, it isn’t absurd to see that women and men are starving themselves to look like higher end fashion models. It is okay that males and females don’t look like the people in the magazines, the models for the magazines don’t even look like the models in the magazines due to Photoshop and makeup artist’s that know every trick in the book to make looks better than reality.
