We have a scale for measuring the severity of the inversion. It’s called the AQI or Air quality index. The more particles there are in the air, the higher a location’s AQI rating is. A geographical area is given one of six ratings. Good (0 - 50), Moderate (51 - 100), Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (101 - 150), Unhealthy (151 - 200), Very Unhealthy (201 - 300), and Hazardous (301 - 500). On these foggy mornings, Utah is typically between 75 and 100. That’s on the lower end, but it’s still important to recognize the health risks of the pollution. Avoid prolonged exposure, do not exercise in the inversion. Be careful when driving, it can be hard to see other cars in this smog! Keep kids playing inside until things clear up. have a great day, and stay safe!
