On February 12th in the auditorium Mountain View’s drama department will be holding the annual fundraiser. Unlike the typical car washes and bake sales, when asked to describe the event Carissa Lopez, the director of the fundraiser said that “the Mr. Mountain View competition is an entertaining and fun pageant-like competition” with 13 male contestants representing their school club or organization.
Each year the pageant has a theme chosen by the director, in this case Carissa has chosen the theme “The Bigger Picture.” According to Carissa the theme has usually been based off the opening number. This year she took a different approach, instead of the classic opening number she is breaking tradition and doing a mashup of songs chosen by the contestants. “The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. I decided to have each of the contestants choose a song that either represented themselves or their organization… To me this symbolized all of the guys coming together with their small part to create ‘The Bigger Picture’ with everyone.”
The guys are judged on 6 different categories; opening number, interview, talent, formal wear, sash, and lunch with the judges. The identity of the judges have not been released to the public yet, but tradition is that the judges tend to be people of significance as well as adored by the bruin community. In the end there is 6 main winners: Mr. Mountain View, first runner up, people’s choice, Mr. Congeniality, and the spirit award.
So show up and support the bruin community as well as the local drama department! $3 pre-sale and $5 at the door! See you there!
