Among those who participated in the event was Mountain View head basketball coach, Alan Groves. Groves was involved with the Title VII program as a youth and now participates as a supportive faculty member.
“We have many different native American students here though it's not apparent. Many have been involved in Title VII and other cultural programs,” said Groves.
Title VII exists to ensure that the Federal Government works with American Indian Nations and leaders “toward the goal of ensuring that programs that serve Indian children are of the highest quality and provide for not only the basic elementary and secondary educational needs, but also the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of these children.”
The event included two main groups composed of 10 different tribes together with Alaskan native participants. Title VII for the US Department of Education includes American Indians, Native Hawaiians, and Alaskan Natives.
