Team 1 Sea to Shining Sea, Team 2 Seed to Growing Seed artwork.
Mountain View art students were sponsored by the Orem Community Hospital for the 2015 Chalk the Block, at the Riverwood shops in Provo, Utah. Along with Orem and Timpanogos High. All three schools competed against each other for 1st place over Intermountain Healthcare’s prize donation to the school’s art program. Two teams representing their school had to create artwork based on the Orem Community Intermountain Healthcare’s theme for this year which was “Seed to Growing Seed” and “Sea to Shining Sea.” Mountain View’s two teams included, Rocio Vasquez as Team 1 captain, with Anna Ladle, Brittany Hair, Alex Krantz, and Emily Sohler. Daniel Mendez as captain of Team 2, along with Sam Routt, Mckenzie Ezola, Hailey Merritt, and Elena Durfee. Each team came up with amazing artwork, however, it was the Bruins who took the win home for overall high school winners for Chalk the Block. Both teams took first and second place winners for the Intermountain Healthcare competition as well. Chalk the Block is a popular event that takes place at the shops at Riverwoods each year, usually in September. This year it was on the 18th and 19th. The three schools parking spaces or “chalk canvases” were located in the front parking stalls of the yummy grill and sliders place called Marley’s. Surrounded by other artists and their work. Chalk the Block is a good opportunity for artists from all over the valley, of different ages and varieties to come together, making and sharing beautiful artwork. Mountain View is grateful to have been apart of that this year, and having the ability to share their artwork with the world. Art students at Mountain View express their gratitude to Intermountain Healthcare for sponsoring the teams to enter Chalk the Block this year.
