The process in which the Mountain View drama department chooses their productions and actors is blank interesting.
Every year when local junior highs such as Lakeridge and Orem Junior High hold a show, Mr.Criman and his fellow theatre connoisseurs go and observe all the actors. At first this process sounds a tiny bit “creepy” but it is actually quite inspiring.
Criman has an amazing knack to see people's potential and exactly what type of acting roles they’d excel in. Considering this technique, this is a major factor to how Mr.Criman chooses his plays and musicals.
For example, he saw the beautiful voice of Mckenna Johnson and could see that she would be fantastic as the role of Ariel in this years production of The Little Mermaid.
Another factor that plays into how they choose what show to do is “the needs of the community” Criman tells us that he also takes into account the opinion of the principal Dr.Chun.
This years musical, The Little Mermaid was a common favorite pick because of how fun it would be for the community, it’s spicing things up compared to shows they’ve done lately plus it’s a fun show for students to participate in.
Performer Acelin Brown says she has loved participating in this production of The Little Mermaid, Criman has given her the opportunity to use her passion for theatre makeup to create “magical characters, using bright, fun colors”!
It will be exciting to see how she recreates these average students into an array of fantasy characters.
Another thing that will be fun to see is the choreography of 2015-2016 graduate Beth. She says “Mr.Criman noticed my choreography in past years and invited me to come this year and help out, I was so complimented that he really sees that much potential in me.”.
With the mix of several talented students this production will for sure be MAGICAL, not to mention the special effect of FLYING CHARACTERS will add to it being an enchanting show. This will not be one to miss, Criman has included many fragments of emotional, talent and creativity into this production of The Little Mermaid.
